Excerpt: The inhabitants of Rajpar, India, were desperate for water. During periods of ample rainfall, villagers lowered buckets a short way down Rajpar’s big well, and then pulled up the water- filled containers. In the year 2000, however, due to a long dry spell, the well contained only a barely visible puddle at the bottom. To get it, villagers lowered a volunteer down the well with ropes. Deeper and deeper she went: 50 feet below ground level. There-20 stories beneath the Earth’s surface- she filled containers with water from the bottom of the well. She was then pulled up to the surface, where she distributed the precious liquid to her neighbors.

    What causes Droughts?
It’s easy to understand what causes these disasters, but the hard part is how to prevent a drought from happening. Droughts are caused by lack of rain which causes the regions around the world to dry out. There are three main drought types that are mainly discussed, Hydrological Droughts, Agricultural Droughts and the Meteorological Droughts. I found this book to be very interesting, I learned things I never knew existed, things other country’s face and how they survive it.

I read this book about droughts, I recommend this book because it can teach you about saving water and not to misuse it. It teaches you how important water is to us animals and plants. We should feel lucky to have water because a lot of countries don’t even have water in there home..

I like how this book explains about the different kinds and the most serious droughts that have occured. It was really interesting to read about it because I didn’t know things like that can actually happen in different countries as in India and Australia and a few others. And it explains what people had to do to survive when a drought happens.

The book Droughts was really dull. I didn’t enjoy the book because it didn’t seem to have anything that seemed important to me. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone unless I know the person is interested in those kinds of things. This book is the persons choice if they want to read it or not I wouldn’t let them know my opinion about it, it’s on them to decide on their own rather they liked the book or not.

I appreciate how the book informed me that droughts that occur in the united states. i never would have known such things can happen so close to home. I also liked the details of how people from other countries cope with the droughts near them. It was really surprising to know the some people have to travel miles and carry I huge iceberg home to melt for water. This has really helped to appreciate the natural element of water that use everyday of my life .
